For the Dometic DM2872LB1, the installation is a little different than a residential refrigerator. It is designed to fit tightly into a sealed RV enclosure and relies on the exterior upper and lower vents for airflow.
Per Dometic's installation manual:
- Sides: 0" minimum clearance
- Rear: 0" minimum clearance
- Bottom: 0" minimum clearance
- Top: 0" minimum to 1/4" maximum clearance
In fact, if there is more than 1/4" of space at the top or sides, Dometic recommends filling the gap with non-combustible insulation or baffles to force air to travel up the back of the cooling unit rather than around it. This "chimney effect" is critical for proper cooling performance.
