Can Curt Hitches be used to mount a vertical bike rack?

Curt will not warranty a hitch, including the Curt 13284 Class 3 Hitch, if it was used to mount a vertical bike rack. They recommend using tray style racks only, as mounting a vertical rack may void the warranty on your Curt Class 3 Hitch.
